HH Day II Post-Event Story in “Party Peoples” Section

Crafted by Zoo York’s talented in-house design squad, the Grimy Series features photo-real graphics of textured surfaces found all throughout the city.  From weathered pillars and bricks at the famed Brooklyn Banks to heavily sessioned benches at the South Street Seaport, the grit and grime of NYC’s aging architecture take center stage in Zoo’s new pro model board series.  Pick up a Grimy deck at your local shop at the end of September.

Waajeed from the Platinum Pied Pipers stopped by the Zoo today to grab some gear before heading out on the PPP world tour. Waajeed’s the man! For tour dates, peep their MySpace page.

On Saturday (8/23) beginning at 11am, the organizers of the inaugural Lower East Side Bike Show want you to roll down to PS 142 on the corner of Rivington and Attorney Streets to celebrate being a New Yorker on two wheels. All bicycles are welcome at this unique bike show and BBQ in the heart of Manhattan’s L.E.S. And while there, you can get your picture taken with your bike for possible inclusion in “New York City Rider” - a new book that will chronicle NYC’s diverse bike riding population.

Eli Reed just got a banger at this spot
for the ZY “State of Mind” video.
Oh and those other two guys got some
good clips for the videos they are working on too!

You can catch Eli Reed and Matt Miller at the DC Demo in
NYC under the Manhattan bridge this weekend.

Peep the trailer if you haven’t already.

After an incredible weekend of riding by all, Jeremiah Smith, 21, left no doubt who would be the 2008 King of New York Pro Champion. It was his to lose as Jeremiah slammed the door on the eighteen other pros competing by qualifying first on Saturday. He kept up the intensity during Sunday’s Final with smooth riding and flow, busting out non-stop with tricks like wall-ride to barspin, double whips, wall-ride to tuck no hander, barspin-to-tailwhip, and no-brake tire tap to foot jam on the big sub. Second place finisher Dzavid Radoncic, 16, out of Brooklyn was hungry too with 720s over the spine, and big tailwhips and turndowns on the concrete quarter. Rounding out the top three was Ronnie Surridge, who raised everyone’s blood pressure with the gnarliest nose dive spine 360s, and quarterpipe 540s. Three-time King of New York and reigning Pro Champion Jorge Jovel finished eighth but still wowed the fans despite a serious elbow infection, throwing down big front flips, and huge wall taps and quarter pipe airs.

The Bronx came out to rep full force in Brooklyn, with Franky Navarro, 18, and David Lawrence, 16, taking their respective wins in the Expert and Beginner classes. Fresh off his gold medal SuperPark X Games win the weekend before, Daniel Dhers even came to hang out and support his peers. Finally, undaunted by the rain falling after the awards ceremonies, bands Face Death, Night Swim, and Big Grin rocked out and played to finish off a great KoNY weekend.
