The Zoo York Institute is proud to announce that veteran ZY Official, Will Skudin, has been named Surf Team Manager. In his new role, Skudin will oversee all surf-related athlete, marketing, and event initiatives. Although he’s adding a new title to his resume, Skudin will continue to hold it down as one of Zoo’s top pros – serving double-duty as team rider and team manager.

Born, raised and currently living in Long Beach, NY, Skudin’s big wave pursuits have led him to epic breaks around the world where he’s gained notoriety within the surf community by catching and conquering some monsters. A veteran Zoo Yorker, over the past five years Skudin has played an integral part in helping to build and shape Zoo’s expanding surf program. In his new role as TM, Skudin is psyched to have the opportunity to contribute on an even deeper level.

“Seeing as I’m a surfer from Long Island, there’s really no better brand for me to be affiliated with than Zoo York,” says Skudin. “I’ve been with Zoo since I was nineteen, and I’m hyped to step up my game as TM. The team is killing it right now, and in the coming year the ZY Surf program will definitely turn heads.”

In addition to Will Skudin, the ZY Surf squad includes Nick Jiampa, Jun Jo, Pat Millin, Mike Millin, Sean Killarney, Ben McBrien, Robert Wurlitzer, Morgan O’Connell, and new recruit, Rob Brown.

The crew at Line Up Magazine is hosting a special event on Thursday night (6/26) at the Moonstone Lounge located on the rooftop of the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, CA. The inaugural ROCKsta event is open to the public and will feature live music, fashion shows, art exhibits, and a silent auction (with LTD Zoo York gear) to benefit the non-profit organizations The Land of Plenty and SurfAid International. Peep the flyer for full details.

ZY Official, Chaz Ortiz, stepped up big-time this past weekend at the AST Dew Tour Panasonic Open in Baltimore, MD. Chaz threw down some serious hammers in the skatepark final to knock off a slew of top pros on his way to a 3rd place finish behind Paul Rodriguez and Ryan Sheckler.

At only fourteen years of age, Chaz is technically an amateur, but he skates like a seasoned pro with nerves of steel and a deep bag of man-sized tricks on lock. And he’s definitely getting the respect of his peers as Sheckler stated after the contest, “P-Rod and Chaz are amazing and it feels great to share the day with these guys. I think Chaz has the potential to be the next ‘it’ skater. He has the attitude of a champion, he skates like a champion. I hope he has the most success out of skateboarding.”

As you’d expect, Chaz was super stoked on the day and enthusiastically exclaimed, “I’m skating with the best in the world right here on the Dew Tour, and I couldn’t ask for anything more. Paul’s one of my good friends… and it’s an honor to share a podium with him and Ryan. You have no idea how happy I am to be here.”

Check out a clip of Chaz shreddin’ the finals on the Dew Tour site. Next stop is the Right Guard Open in Cleveland, OH, from July 17th - 20th, and you can bet Chaz will once again be gunning for the top spot! Stay tuned…

Our bros from Chi-town, Arthur and Mike, are midway through their 850+ mile skate mission from the “Windy City” to NYC. And in today’s edition of the NY Post (6/20), the duo got some well earned shine on page 15. Scroll down on our blog to learn more, or hit up their site: shredamericafilm.com. Stoked to see you guys in NYC next month!

The Photocopy Series was crafted by Zoo’s talented in-house design squad, and it’s now available at skate shops across the country and around the world. Pick one up and either shred it, or hang it on your wall as art…either way, you’ll be stoked.

For our newest artist series, we tapped the superlative design skills of brothers Matt and Mark Owens. Entitled The Urbane Jungle, this refined board series takes Zoo’s downtown aesthetic uptown, recasting each ZY Official as a particular type of “public intellectual” focused on specific areas of expertise: Architecture, Literature, Food, Art, Transit, and Tourism.

Head to your local shop to get yours. And for more info on the Owens brothers, check out: lifeofthemind.net and volumeone.com.
