This past Saturday (5/17), the 2nd Annual Harold Hunter Day was held in NYC. All week leading up to the event the weather report wasn’t looking too promising as cool temps and showers were forecasted. However, Harold himself must have been smiling down on us because Saturday turned out to be one of the nicest days of the year with temps in the 70’s and nothing but sunshine.

500+ skaters and spectators swarmed the Manhattan Bridge Skatepark in Chinatown from Noon-6pm for a positive day of shredding in memory of Harold. Plenty of big names showed up including the entire Zoo York team, as well as Chad Muska, The Gonz, Jeremy Henderson, Vinny Raffa, Steve Rodriguez, Luis Tolentino, Jahmal Williams, Billy Rohan, Rodney Torres, Vinny Ponte, Todd Jordan, Jeff Pang, and many more. And to keep the crowds jumpin’, New York’s finest, Pete Rock, crushed it on the tables as he served up classic jam after classic jam for hours.

When the skate session began to wind down, a massive product toss was held and the crowd definitely got hooked up Harold-style with dozens of decks, tees, wheels, DVD’s, stickers, hats, and sneakers. A huge thank you goes out to all the companies that kicked down product and lent their support including the Harold Hunter Foundation, Rock Star Bearings, SHUT, 5boro, New Era, Hopps, Official, Instant Winner, UXA, Verte, Acapulco Gold, Billy’s Nuts, Savage, Off Bowery, Everything Must Go, Frank 151, DQM, Rival, Supreme, Autumn, KCDC, Anything, Red Bull, Function Drinks, and Camp Woodward.

After six hours of skating and hanging in the sun, the 21+ crowd was definitely ready to chill out with some cold beers. And what better place to do that than at KCDC Skateshop? From 8pm-Midnight, hundreds of people packed into KCDC for the official HH Day II after party. The mini-ramp session went off as it always does when top NYC rippers are in the house, DJ Neil Nice pumped out the beats, a touching slide show of Harold pics by Giovanni Reda ran all night, and party goers enjoyed tasty beverages generously donated by Newcastle Beer, Pacifico Beer, Red Bull, and Function Drinks.

By all accounts, Harold Hunter Day II was a massive success and we’re already looking forward to next year. At the end of the day, it’s all about bringing together NYC’s skateboarding community to remember and pay tribute to a true New York icon. Harold definitely would have been psyched on how the day went, and that’s what matters most. Legends Never Die!

Our exclusive HH Day II podcast is on the way, as well as a LTD collab product offering from the HH Foundation, Reda, and the Zoo. For now though you can check out some HH Day II coverage from 411VM.
