NYC SKATEBOARDING COMMUNITY UNITES TO SUPPORT NON-PROFIT YOUTH ORGANIZATION STOKED MENTORING

New York, NY – May 11, 2007 – The Zoo York Institute, in conjunction with 5boro Skateboards, Official Skateboards, DC Shoes, Silver Trucks, and Blades Board & Skate, today announced it has signed on as presenting sponsor of the first-ever Stoked Skate Jam NYC.

Set to go down Saturday, May 19th from 1-4pm at the Coleman Square Skatepark under the Manhattan Bridge (aka, Chinatown Skatepark), the Stoked Skate Jam NYC will serve as the official kick off for Stoked Mentoring’s Skate Mentor Program. Over a five-week period this summer, Stoked’s Skate Mentor Program will use the process of learning to skate as a platform upon which to build a strong, positive connection between “at risk” NYC youth and their mentors, while teaching communication skills and the value of community service.

Several hundred local skaters are expected to attend the Stoked Skate Jam NYC, and team riders from Zoo, 5boro, and Official will be on hand for an open skate jam. All the action will get underway at 1pm, and a best trick contest is slated for 3:30pm with the top dog winning a one-week trip to Woodward Skate Camp. Plus, there will be product tosses throughout the day, and plenty of food and drinks.
